Activision and Bungie ink Surprising 10-year Publishing Deal

Posted by: GD-Walton Thursday, April 29, 2010 - 01:43 PM
This news certainly wasn't expected: Activision and Bungie have announced a worldwide, ten-year publishing deal that will bring Bungie's games to... well, we don't know yet. From the wording of the release, however, it's clear that the developer's days creating Xbox 360 exclusives are over.

In case you're worried about Bungie based on recent events, it looks like the studio will remain in control of its upcoming titles. "Activision will have exclusive, worldwide rights to publish and distribute all future Bungie games based on the new intellectual property on multiple platforms and devices," the release explains. "Bungie remains an independent company and will continue to own their intellectual property. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed."

Bungie split from Microsoft in 2007, with Halo Reach being the last game the developer created in that franchise before 343 Industries takes over development of the Halo property. According to the NPD Group, the Halo series has generated over $1.5 billion in revenue. Bungie states that the deal has been in the works for nine months.

Heavy Rain is a 4.2Gb Install, Lets You Make Origami

Posted by: GD-Walton Tuesday, February 02, 2010 - 08:22 PM
General News It has been revealed that Heavy Rain's Install will weigh in at 4.2Gb when released later in the month.

However, while you’re waiting on the game disc to install the data, Quantic Dream provides you with something to occupy your time with.

While you sit there waiting on the required install, you can make Swan Origami in twelve steps. Surely this will take up most of your installation time, unless you are pro at creating it with a game controller already for some reason.

So would you rather take the two seconds to change a disc or wait God knows how long for a 4.2Gb install?

Hopefully, the demo will be able to answer your questions. A free demo will be available on the PlayStation Network on February 11th, in both Europe and North America.

Ubisoft to 'refocus' on Xbox 360, PS3 and 'major franchises'

Posted by: GD-Walton Thursday, January 14, 2010 - 02:13 PM
General News As Ubisoft today sent its financial forecast soaring downward for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2010, CEO Yves Guillemot pledged to steer the company away from the suffering casual market. Specifically, "with a view to further reducing our exposure to the DS, we intend to continue to refocus our development resources on our major franchises and on the Xbox 360 and PS3, the two consoles which are expected to see sales growth in games for gamers in 2010," Guillemot said.

For the fiscal 2009-10 year, Ubisoft has revised its sales target to €860 million (roughly $1.25 billion) -- down from an estimated €1,040 million -- resulting in an anticiapted €50 million operating loss. The publisher cited a near 50 percent year-over-year drop in casual game sales as the leading cause for the revised financial target, despite "robust" sales of casual Wii games (especially sales of Just Dance). Poor retail performances by James Cameron's Avatar: The Game and unspecified "non-casual" Wii titles, along with weak back catalog sales, were also to blame. The last-minute delays of Splinter Cell: Conviction and R.U.S.E. affect the current fiscal year, as well.

As for fiscal 2010-11, Ubisoft has indeed planned a lineup of "major" franchises, including the aforementioned Splinter Cell game, along with new entries in the Ghost Recon and Prince of Persia series, in addition to a newly announced Assassin's Creed "episode," and Rabbids and Driver installments. "The 2010-11 line-up -- which is stronger in franchises for Xbox 360 and PS3 -- reflects our refocusing efforts and should enable us to both win market share and enhance our profitability," Guillemot concluded.

Posted by: GD-Walton Friday, December 04, 2009 - 02:42 PM
The big news of the day is definitely the announcement of the release of a Gran Turismo 5 demo on PSN on December 17. It will include a time trial race on one track at the wheel of the Nissan 370Z. Now it's not the end of the story as a big time trial competition will accompany the demo, giving the fastest drivers the chance to join the GT Academy 2010. After a national final event that will oppose the 20 best racers of the demo, only two of them will win the right to enter the GT Academy 2010 and drive real racing cars. Players will have until January 24 to send their best time, so gentlemen, let's start your engine!
