The long and tumultuous road to release for Splinter Cell: Conviction suffered another bump today as Ubisoft announced that it would be delaying the title for the fourth time, due to a soft retail market and a reduced earnings forecast. Conviction now has a release window of April 2010.

As Tokyo Game Show 2009 gets underway, Ubisoft has announced that it has settled on February 23, 2010 as the release date for Splinter Cell Conviction. The game was most recently rumored to be hitting that month after being delayed into the "March quarter" of next year.

There's a whole host of delays coming out of today's Ubisoft investor update, but this is the one that'll likely hurt the most: Splinter Cell: Conviction has been moved from the fourth quarter of 2009 to the first quarter of 2010. In other words, Sam Fisher won't be making his return until sometime between January 1 and March 31 of next year (the fourth fiscal quarter of 2009-10).
You're sad, we're sad, everyone's sad. But Conviction's been delayed so many times, you can make a few more months, right? Right?

The new Splinter Cell game, after being taken back to the drawing board, now will not be released until fiscal 2009-10, said Ubisoft in their most recent financial report. That's between April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010 , folks. The game is due out on PC and Xbox360 as of now. Apparently, in a conference call following the announcement, Ubisoft pres Yves Guillemot added:
"Splinter Cell is a very important franchise for Ubisoft and we have high anticipation for this game. It is a major product and we want it to be able to catch all the gameplay opportunities it is offering to us today. There are lots of opportunities that we want to take and so that is why we can give [them] a little bit more time to make sure it can become a huge product."
