  Half Life 2: Orange - Xbox360 In October, PS3 In 2008!

Posted by: GD-Borgon Thursday, May 24, 2007 - 08:55 PM
According to a small tidbit of information at the end of the Xbox360 Half Life 2 Episode 2 hands-on over at IGN, the game will see retail shelves for the 360 sometime in October. IGN then goes on to say that PS3 owners may be in for a bit more of a wait.

"For PS3 owners, the wait will be even longer and possibly into 2008. But after spending a good amount of time playing Episode Two, it seems the wait will be well worth it."

Valve's Steam Service Hacked, Credit Card Information Obtained

Posted by: GD-Borgon Thursday, April 19, 2007 - 02:54 PM
Steam Not good!!!

Valve's Steam content distribution system has apparently been hacked. The culprit allegedly got deep enough into the system to steal credit card information and financial information on Valve. DailyTech reports the hacker known as "MaddoxX" broke in and obtained:

-Screenshots of internal Valve web pages
-A portion of Valve's Cafe directory
-Error logs
-Credit card information of customers
-Financial information on Valve

MaddoxX posted the information he obtained on an anti-Steam website. He has also threatened to release a spreadsheet of the credit card information. Valve was contacted for a statement on this alleged breach in security. No reply as of yet...

Activision Sets Up New Partnership With Steam

Posted by: GD-Borgon Friday, October 13, 2006 - 12:29 PM
Activision has signed a new deal with Valve Software that will see four of its titles being made available through the Steam digital distribution service.

The games, which will be released over Steam by the end of October, are Call of Duty, COD 2, COD United Offensive and Gun. Call of Duty 2 will be $39.95, and all of the others will cost $19.95.

"Our agreement with Steam enhances our current online distribution model by allowing us to bring our games to the broadest possible audience," said Activision exec Dave Anderson.

"As broadband penetration continues to grow worldwide, offering our titles digitally to the millions of gamers connected through Steam makes sense to us."

According to Valve, Steam now has more than 10 million registered users. Recently added games include Defcon, Advent Rising and Psychonauts, all of which are priced at under 20 bucks.

  Steam News Update

Steam For those of you still interested.

Today we released an update for Day of Defeat: Source that addresses a number of issues people were having with the game. Details of this release are available here.

Next week we'll have another Counter-Strike: Source release, where we'll be unveiling the new radar that was first mentioned here. We're looking forward to seeing how people like it, along with how it will change gameplay. Looking beyond this release, we'll be taking a look at the economy of Counter-Strike and how we're pricing weapons.

Around Valve these days, the Leipzig Games Convention is the focus of everyone working on Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. Coming out of next week we'll be releasing some of the new footage for everyone to see.

Half-Life 2: Episode One Now Playable

Posted by: GD-Borgon Thursday, June 01, 2006 - 06:57 PM
<img src=http://www.joystiq.com/media/2006/06/HL2eponecqh.jpg>

Valve has opened the virtual doors to Half-Life 2: Episode One: that's right, the first episode of the new series that follows the aftermath of Half-Life 2 is now playable on Steam. Rumors suggesting that the game would be pushed back until June 30th have fortunately turned out to be false.

Up until now, pretty much all we knew about the plot of Episode One was a mysterious little blurb found on the official site that says "in Half-Life, the G-Man made you. In Half-Life 2, he used you to defeat Dr. Breen and start the Resistance. In Episode One, he's lost control." So, loyal Joystiq readers, get to it! We want to hear first impressions of the storyline, graphics and, most importantly, whether or not the G-man's immaculate suit has been torn as a result of him "losing control".
